I have a klr 650 2016 since last year and I love it! Few weeks ago it stalled suddenly while running, then nothing for some times... And then it came back and became more frequent, especially when it was hotter. When starting the engine again right after it stalled it has some good misfire. And I struggled a bit to warm up the bike.

My concept (unverified at this moment) is: The Generation 1 ignition coil is never physically "disconnected" from the stator exciter coils through the CDI, which discharges its capacitor from pickup coil pulse; however, the CDI power lead is grounded when the kill switch is in the OFF position (if there IS a kill switch) or the ignition switch is in the OFF position (again,

Hello all. 2012 KLR 650, four+ years of trouble-free running. But now the ignition system cuts out and and the engine misses and backfires unless I have the headlight on high beam. Seems I have a ''short'' somewhere - in the low beam circuit - but it seems strange that a headlight intermittent short should be cutting out the ignition circuit.

I don''t see why the New system can''t work in ONLY 1 revolution cycles! Both Old style and New style ignition systems, have a ''Waste'' spark on the exhaust stroke! And if anything, the new system with even weak battery voltage continuously ''trying'' to flow thru the primary ignition coil windings, one would think it should generate a spark.

It''s not the Capacitive Discharge Ignition (CDI) it is in the ignition circuit not the lighting circuits. On the Gen1 bikes it doesn''t use battery power.
